Can’t Let Go

She kissed him goodbye at the dock
Stood there waving from the pier
She could see him on the back deck
Smilin’ waving until they disappeared

She never thought for a moment
It'd be the last time she’d see her man
And just how much her whole life changed that day
She can’t comprehend

They had hopes they had plans
They had dreams like all good people do
Now her dreams have all been shattered
And nothing seems to matter but the truth
Just an empty tug and barge
Was the only thing they’d ever find
And there’s no consolation
In all the speculation in her mind

She just can’t let go
These things that might have been
Like how her whole life might have turn out
She keeps on wondering
In her heart she feels the pain
It’s drivin’ her insane
Thinkin’ that he might come back again
These things she don’t know
She just can’t let go

Another time, another Tug
Another dark windy night for navigation
The traffic control operator
Copied their last communication
They never found the vessel or the crew
And no one will even know
About the Dad with such a sad memory
He just can’t let go

He just can’t let go
No one can ease his mind
Cause he gave his son a ride that night
To the job that took his life
He thinks about the little boy that he raised
And his pictures in his wallet he still shows
Everywhere he goes
He just can’t let go

He’ll pull a heavy load
And you just can’t let go
He just can’t let go
He just can’t let go
He just can’t let go
